Hook village itself owes its existence to the rich coal seams of Pembrokeshire.
Known as the Black Diamond Village, anthracite was mined in Hook for many years. In turn Hook Club owes its existence to the hard work and philanthropy of the miners, who despite their relative poverty collectively purchased the Recreation Field in 1921.

The first Committee of Hook Sports Association was formed in July 1978 when fundraising for the Club began, In 1982 a lease was agreed between the Committee and the Charity Commissioners, and the building of the Club began, supported by local contractors many of whom gave their time for free to support the construction.
The Club officially opened in 1984 and has since seen many parties, weddings and other social occasions. The Club is home to the Cricket Club, Bowls Club and Snooker Club, as well as Pool teams, Darts teams, and an Art Club.
Since 2017 the Club has been managed and run by the Committee who give many unpaid hours each week. In recent years the Club has had a makeover, new doors, a new patio, a refurbished Black Diamond Events Room, new toilets including much needed accessible and baby changing facilities and a newly redecorated bar.
We give thanks to those who worked hard to build the Club, those who have supported over the last 40 years and those who continue to ensure that the Club offers a warm welcome for us and future generations to enjoy.
